Donation towards building a Mosque in Växjö, Sweden

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Muslims in the west are in a serious need of maintaining their Islamic identity, therefore, (with God''s will) we will build a mosque in Växjö. Växjö is located in the southern part of Sweden. Thousands of Muslims coming from more than 30 Islamic countries, live in Växjö''s regional area. The mosque will be the key element of the planned Islamic centre, which has already established an Islamic school. The city is well known for its international university, (i.e. Växjö University) in which there is a possibility for Islamic theological studies.
Sweden is a country where religious beliefs and human rights are respected. Recently, many Swedish people have welcomed the idea of building a mosque in Växjö. The whole city of Växjö demonstrated against Nazis that were trying go against the political decision of building the mosque. During the demonstration, representatives from different institutions spoke and wrote in the newspapers about the advantages of having the mosque and showed criticism against the Nazis and their messages.
Växjö municipality created a small group of politicians to work as a link between Muslims in the area and neighbours to the future mosque; the purpose of the group was to overcome misunderstandings about the mosque and Islam in general. Furthermore, students from Växjö University have been writing essays about this particular topic.
The idea of having the mosque has been a dream since the congregation started in Växjö in 1988. The congregation started out with only a few members but it has grown rapidly and today it consists of several thousand people with different nationalities. Small cities around Växjö are also included in the figures.
Much work and effort has been put into providing services for Muslims and creating a positive image of Islam. Lectures debates and conferences of various types have been arranged. Växjö was one of few communities to have a special place for burial of Muslims, and also got the right to perform marriage. In addition, there has also been an increase in the activities for women and youths. A competition has been arranged in Quran recitation for children.
We are eager to maintain our good relations with community and public authorities, relations that build on understanding and mutual respect.
The Islamic community in Växjö has gained more strength by young converts, boys and girls that don't settle with only learning about Islam but also active participation and lectures for the public community and schools.
Finally, there is also the Islamic school that was started in 2002. It is driven with community funds and includes students in the ages 6-13years old
